Austria’s trade deficit narrowed to EUR 563.3 million in March 2026, down from EUR 892 million in the same month a year earlier. Exports rose by 9.5% year-on-year to EUR 18.17 billion, driven primarily by higher sales of machinery and vehicles, processed goods, chemical products, and other manufactured items. Exports to EU member states and to non-EU countries increased by 8.2% and 2.5%, respectively. At the same time, imports grew by 7.1% to EUR 18.73 billion, mainly reflecting stronger demand for machinery and vehicles as well as processed goods. Intra-EU imports climbed 5.8%, while imports from non-EU countries advanced 9.7%.
