Data from consultancy EY shows the United Kingdom has successfully become one of the most attractive global destinations for capital linked to the artificial intelligence industry. This trend complements an already established historical inflow of foreign funds into British financial services and health care. Experts note that although such qualitative changes may not immediately improve the country’s overall balance of payments, they clearly explain why the pound has retained resilience even amid ongoing domestic political uncertainty. Bank of America adds that the United Kingdom is now demonstrating a structurally higher quality of foreign direct investment inflows than continental Europe, where capital structures remain dominated by older traditional industries.
The actual move away from a model reliant on M&A cycles carries important macroeconomic benefits.
