It turned out that ties between Russia and Turkey are too strong to be broken. More to the point, the strongmen of the both countries decided to meet each other halfway. Just a little while ago, Turkey was the bitterest enemy of Russia, but the countries decided to bury the hatchet when it came to business matters.
From now on, Turkey is again the best friend of Russia as the President lifted economic sanctions which were imposed early last year. In its turn, Ankara also removed all restrictions. The countries wiped the slate clean and turned over a new leaf. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich and his Turkish counterpart, Mehmet Simsek, signed a deal on resumption of bilateral relations. Prime ministers Dmitry Medvedev and Binali Yildirim were also present at this meeting.
The government heads settled this issue themselves during the recent negotiations, so this signing was just a formal occasion. In fact, the decision to repair ties was taken even earlier, in March, when Vladimir Putin and Recep Erdogan agreed to drop the sanctions. Soon after this meeting, Turkish agriculture products flooded to Russia, but only tomatoes remained the sticking point. However, later on even tomatoes were allowed to be imported.
