Just a fortnight after the launch of Apple's Vision Pro, many users have begun returning the virtual reality headset. Complaints of motion sickness and headaches are the main reasons cited for the returns. Apple has a policy that allows the refunding and returning of products within 14 days of purchase.
Many tech enthusiasts expressed their disappointment with the $3,500 headsets on various social media sites. One user likened the Vision Pro experience to "the most mind-blowing piece of tech" they've ever tried, but the constant headaches after 10 minutes of use made it unbearable.
Discomfort is the most common complaint from users, with some experiencing motion sickness and headaches. Others pointed out issues of dry and red eyes due to consistent light exposure from the headset. In some extreme cases, fears of the device possibly causing a burst of blood vessels in the eyes were aired.
One user on Reddit shared their account, "I got Vision Pro on the first day it came out. Since then, I've had headaches non-stop. I visited the Apple store, they changed my light seal from 21w to 22w. I tried both the single and double bands, but neither worked. I even purchased a headband from Amazon to support the single loop band, but it didn’t make a difference. Today, I decided not to use them for a full day, and my headache has subsided".
Interestingly, Apple had anticipated some of these discomfort issues, as was indicated in their support pages for the device. The tech giant noted, users should be aware of any motion sickness symptoms like nausea and recommended putting the Vision Pro aside at the first onset of these issues. "Wait until symptoms have lessened before doing anything requiring balance, coordination, or attention to safety," the company document advised. Some users also complained about the device's productivity relative to its high price, pointing out difficulties in multitasking and managing files. "If I'm not using it for work, and I don't particularly enjoy it for entertainment, plus there are hardly any games to play on it - it's hard to justify keeping it," a Reddit user said.
Despite these setbacks, most users expressed their interest in giving the next version of the Vision Pro headset a shot.
