Serbia's trade deficit expanded considerably in April 2025, reaching $1.142 billion, compared to $766.4 million in the same month of the previous year. This increase was driven by import growth surpassing the rise in exports. Imports surged by 16.7% year-over-year, totaling $4.184 billion, largely due to a significant uptick in energy purchases (21.8%), capital goods (12.8%), and goods not categorized by the Main Industrial Grouping (MIG) criteria (72.5%). On the other hand, exports rose modestly by 4.5%, amounting to $3.0416 billion, fueled by increased sales of intermediate goods (41.7%), capital goods (11.5%), and durable consumer goods (7.3%).
