In May, Morocco's annual inflation rate decelerated to 0.4% from 0.7% in April, marking the slowest rate in a year. This reduction was primarily influenced by slower price increases in food and non-alcoholic beverages (0.4% compared to 0.5%), a decrease in housing and utilities costs (2.1% compared to 3.7%), and a decline in prices within the restaurants and hotels sector (3.9% compared to 4.4%). Additionally, there was a sharper deflation in the transport sector, registering at -4.3% versus -4.0%. On a month-to-month basis, consumer prices fell by 0.4% in April, following a 0.3% decrease in March.
