Consumer prices in Macau experienced a modest increase of 0.19% in May 2025 compared to the same month the previous year, a slight decrease from the 0.23% rise recorded in April. This deceleration was largely attributed to reduced inflation in categories such as housing and fuels (0.13% down from 0.21% in April), food and non-alcoholic beverages (a decrease to 0.21% from 0.48%), miscellaneous goods and services (a drop to 1.62% from 1.82%), health (lowering to 0.59% from 1.09%), and alcoholic beverages and tobacco (down to 0.63% from 0.88%). However, these slowdowns were partially counterbalanced by more rapid price hikes in recreation, sport, and culture (rising to 4.14% from 2.47%), alongside narrower declines in household furnishings and services (improving to -0.44% from -0.76%) and transport (improving slightly to -1.41% from -1.67%). On a month-to-month basis, consumer prices registered a slight decline of 0.05% in May, reversing the earlier increase of 0.16% witnessed in April.
