In the first quarter of 2025, Mauritius experienced a 2.6% year-on-year increase in industrial production, achieving the most significant rise since the second quarter of 2023 and improving from the prior period's 1.5% growth. This upturn was largely propelled by a notable surge in output within the electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning supply sectors, which climbed by 8.9% compared to a 1.6% increase in the fourth quarter of 2024. Manufacturing also contributed with a 1.8% increase, up from 1.4%. However, growth decelerated in mining and quarrying, dropping to 2.2% from 9%, and in water supply, sewerage, waste management, and remediation services, slowing to 0.1% from 1.1%. On a quarterly basis, industrial production experienced an 18.3% decline in the first quarter of 2025, following a robust 14.0% expansion in the fourth quarter of 2024.
