This uptick was driven primarily by gains across financials and property stocks. Market sentiment was buoyed by news that the U.S. and China were scheduled to resume trade negotiations in Stockholm, with indications of a probable extension of their tariff truce by three months. The markets were approaching their highest levels in nearly four years, bolstered by developments in the U.S.–EU trade agreement, which established a 15% tariff on most EU goods, reducing the previously threatened rate by half. Nevertheless, these gains were tempered by investor caution ahead of Hong Kong's June trade data, which is expected later today, as well as significant upcoming U.S. economic events this week. These include earnings reports from major technology companies, the Federal Reserve's rate decision, and President Trump's August 1 tariff deadline. Additionally, China's July PMI data is anticipated. Shares of China Tobacco International surged by 13.0% after the company announced that China's draft regulations concerning tobacco would not impact its export business. Other notable gainers included Hansoh Pharma, which rose by 5.7%, AIA Group by 4.8%, and HKEX by 3.0%.
