On Monday, U.S. stock futures showed a slight uptick, with the S&P 500 futures climbing by 0.2% after achieving a record high the previous Friday. The Nasdaq 100 futures rose by 0.4%, and Dow Jones futures increased by nearly 30 points. Investors responded positively to developments hinting at a reduction in trade tensions. Over the weekend, a significant progress came from an agreement between the U.S. and the EU. Under this arrangement, EU exports to the U.S. will be subjected to a 15% tariff, a decrease from the initially looming 30% tariff threatened by President Trump. Furthermore, U.S. and Chinese officials are scheduled for a meeting today to deliberate over ongoing trade matters, with hopes pinned on prolonging the current trade truce. Among the early performers in premarket trading, energy and defense stocks saw notable gains, featuring companies like Lockheed Martin (up 1.1%), GE Aerospace (up 0.7%), RTX (up 0.9%), Exxon Mobil (up 0.6%), and Chevron (up 0.6%). Investors are also preparing for the most intense earnings week of the season, with significant companies such as Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, and Meta set to unveil their quarterly earnings. Added to this, attention will be on the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy decisions and a series of crucial economic data releases.
