Mexican Trade Balance Swings to Surplus in June

In June 2025, Mexico achieved a trade surplus of $514 million, bouncing back from a $2.41 billion deficit observed in the same month the previous year. However, the surplus fell short of market forecasts, which predicted a $610 million surplus. Exports experienced a significant rise of 10.6% year-over-year, reaching $54 billion. This growth was largely fueled by a 12.4% boost in non-oil goods, highlighted by a remarkable 13.5% increase in manufactured products and a 4.5% uptick in auto shipments. Notably, exports of non-oil goods to the United States surged by 15%, with the automotive sector growing by 6%. Conversely, oil exports witnessed a sharp decline of 30.4%, and there were decreases in agricultural goods by 2.2% and extractive goods by 5.5%. Imports also increased, rising to $53.5 billion from $51.2 billion, primarily driven by a 5.3% rise in non-oil purchases, dominated by consumer goods (5.3%) and intermediate goods (7.1%). However, there was an 8.4% drop in capital goods imports, while oil imports decreased by 5.4%, with a significant 21.2% plunge in oil consumer goods.
