Indonesia Stocks Edge Lower But Still Set for Weekly Gain

In Friday morning trading, Indonesia's stock market experienced a dip, slipping 15 points, or 0.2%, to settle at 8,410. This decline reversed gains from the previous two sessions, with notable downturns seen in healthcare, logistics, and transport sectors. Investor sentiment weakened following a significant selloff on Wall Street the previous night, as losses in U.S. tech stocks and diminished expectations for a Federal Reserve rate cut in December dampened the enthusiasm for riskier assets. Investors were also hesitant to take on new positions due to pressures in domestic sectors, prominently in coal, which has seen profits fall 67% from their peak in 2022, as reported by a think tank. Despite this, the IDX is poised for a weekly rise of approximately 0.5%, buoyed by Bank Indonesia's decision to maintain interest rates at 4.75% for the second consecutive meeting in November. Additionally, a current account surplus in the third quarter of 2025, the first since the first quarter of 2023 and the largest since the second quarter of 2022, has contributed to external stability and bolstered confidence in the rupiah. Notably, specific stocks showed declines, with Transcoal Pacific dropping 4.6%, Cisarua Mountain Dairy decreasing by 4.4%, Medco Energi by 2.3%, and Indosat by 3.3%.
