The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk index, which monitors the rates for ships carrying dry commodities, saw its 14th consecutive day of growth on Tuesday, climbing by 0.7% to reach a new high of 2,600 points, the highest since December 2023. This increase was largely driven by gains in the larger vessel segment. Specifically, the capesize index—associated with vessels that typically transport cargoes of around 150,000 tons, including iron ore and coal—rose by 1.5%, setting a new peak since December 2023 at 4,633 points. In contrast, the panamax index, representing ships that generally carry 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, fell for the fourth consecutive session, dropping roughly 1% to 1,915 points. Meanwhile, the supramax index slightly decreased by 1 point to 1,441 points.
