In December 2025, consumer prices in Fiji remained stable on a year-on-year basis, contrasting with a 1.4% decline recorded in November, thereby concluding a stretch of ten months marked by deflation. Upward price momentum was observed in categories such as food and non-alcoholic beverages, which edged up slightly by 0.1% compared to a 3.9% decrease in November. Additionally, noteworthy increases were seen in alcoholic beverages and tobacco, which surged to 6.4% from the previous 3.8%, as well as education and miscellaneous goods and services, which rose by 0.5% and 5.3%, respectively, albeit with a slight dip from 5.7% in November.
Conversely, downward price trends persisted in several sectors. Transport saw a more significant decrease at -5.3% from -4.3%, housing dropped further to -2.2% from -1.6%, and declines were recorded in clothing and footwear at -2.7%, improving from a previous -3.9%. Recreation and culture faced a minor contraction of -1.7% compared to -1.6%, and furnishings, household equipment, and routine maintenance decreased to -1.3% from -0.5%.
On a month-to-month comparison, consumer prices advanced by 1.2% in December, following a 0.5% rise in November, representing the most rapid increase in 11 months.
