Hungary Inflation Eases to 14-Month Low

In December 2025, Hungary's annual inflation rate decreased to 3.3% from the previous month's 3.8%, aligning with market forecasts. This represents the lowest inflation rate since October of the previous year, primarily due to slower price increases in food (2.6% compared to November's 3.2%), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (7.1% down from 7.5%), and household energy and heating (8.9% as opposed to 9.8%). Additionally, costs for other items and fuels continued to drop, with a decline of 2.4% compared to the previous month's 0.8%. Conversely, inflation saw a quicker rise in clothing items (1.6% up from 1.4%) and services (6.8% compared to 6.5%). On a month-to-month basis, consumer prices increased by 0.1% in December, maintaining the same pace as in November. Annual core inflation, which excludes volatile categories like food and energy, eased to 3.8% in December — the smallest increase recorded since August 2021 — down from 4.1% in November.
