The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk index, a key indicator tracking the rates for ships transporting dry commodities, rose for the second consecutive day on Monday, gaining 5.3% to reach a one-week high of 1,650 points. This increase was driven by gains across various vessel segments. The capesize index, which generally facilitates the transport of 150,000-ton cargoes like iron ore and coal, surged by 8.1% to 2,403 points. Meanwhile, the panamax index, typically associated with 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, saw a 4.3% rise to 1,521 points. In the smaller vessel category, the supramax index edged up by 3 points, reaching 970 points.
