Swedish Household Lending Growth Rises to 2.9%

In December 2025, the annual growth rate of lending to Swedish households increased to 2.9%, returning to October's level, which was close to a three-year peak. This was a slight rise from the 2.8% rate observed in November. Loans for housing, which constitute 83% of total household lending, maintained a steady growth rate of 2.9%. Consumer loans, which account for approximately 6% of household lending, saw an increase of 3.2%. Lending to non-financial corporations showed a significant rebound, expanding by 3.6% after experiencing a contraction in December 2024. In the mortgage market, the average floating mortgage rate continued its gradual decrease, falling to 2.65% in December from 2.68% the previous month. Conversely, the average fixed mortgage rate for new housing loans with maturities between 1 and 5 years experienced a slight uptick to 2.93%. The overall average interest rate on new mortgage agreements was recorded at 2.69%. Regarding household deposits, the total amounted to SEK 2,871 billion, with 75% of these deposits held in on-demand accounts.
