Consumer confidence in the euro area was confirmed at -12.4 for January 2026, the highest level in almost a year, improving from -13.2 in December. Within the larger European Union, consumer sentiment reached -11.7 in January, the best reading since February 2025, and rose from December’s -12.5. This improvement is largely attributed to a more optimistic view on the economy, personal finances, and potential major purchases. Nonetheless, confidence levels in both the euro area and the EU persist below their long-term averages.
