Macau’s unemployment rate slipped to 1.7% in January 2026, down from 1.8% in December. The number of unemployed residents fell by 300 from the previous month to 6,500, while total employment declined by 400 to 378,900. Employment increased in gaming, wholesale and retail trade, real estate, hotels and related services, and the restaurant sector, but declined in construction. The labor force participation rate eased to 67.1%, compared with 67.2% in the preceding two months. By gender, the male participation rate held steady at 69.2%, while the female rate edged down to 65.4% from 65.5%.
