Romania’s economic momentum cooled markedly at the end of 2025, with gross domestic product (GDP) growth easing to 0.2% year-on-year in the fourth quarter, down from a previously recorded 1.7% in the same period a year earlier. The latest data, updated on 6 March 2026, highlight a pronounced deceleration in annual growth momentum.
The figures are based on a year-over-year comparison, measuring the change in GDP in the fourth quarter of 2025 against the fourth quarter of 2024. The previous indicator of 1.7% reflected the year-on-year change registered in the fourth quarter of 2024 compared with the same quarter in 2023.
The sharp slowdown to 0.2% suggests that Romania’s economy has lost pace over the past year, with growth nearly stalling on an annual basis by the end of 2025. Investors and policymakers will be closely watching subsequent releases for signs of whether this marks a temporary soft patch or the beginning of a more prolonged period of subdued expansion.
