Existing home sales in the United States declined 2.4% in June 2026 from the prior month, to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 4.09 million units. This result came in below market expectations that sales would remain unchanged at 4.20 million.
Regionally, sales fell in the South (-3.6% to 1.89 million), the Midwest (-3.0% to 0.98 million), and the West (-1.3% to 0.74 million), more than offsetting an increase in the Northeast (up 2.1% to 0.48 million).
With June’s sales results, housing inventory edged down 0.6% to 1.56 million units, representing 4.6 months of supply at the current sales pace. At the same time, the average price of existing homes rose 1.8% from a year earlier to $440,600, the highest level in over a year.
