German Inflation Softens Further as June CPI Slips 0.3% Month-on-Month

Germany’s consumer price pressures eased again in June, with the country’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) declining 0.3% month-on-month, according to data updated on 10 July 2026. The latest reading marks a slight acceleration in price declines compared with the previous month, when CPI fell 0.2% on a month-over-month basis.

Both indicators refer to June 2026, but capture different comparison points. The current figure reflects the change in prices in June relative to May, while the previous figure measures the change in May relative to April. The step down from -0.2% to -0.3% indicates that disinflationary forces strengthened modestly, with consumer prices retreating at a slightly faster pace than in the prior comparison period.

For markets and policymakers, the continued negative month-on-month prints point to cooling price dynamics in Europe’s largest economy. While the data alone do not reveal the underlying drivers, the trend could reinforce expectations of a more dovish stance from monetary authorities if sustained over the coming months.
