Both figures represent annual comparisons, measuring how much retail sales increased versus the same month a year earlier. The latest data, updated on 15 July 2026, show that while consumer spending is still growing strongly, momentum has softened from April’s surge, suggesting a possible normalization in demand after a period of accelerated expansion.
