Australia’s employment climbed by 76,300 in June 2026 to a record 14.82 million, sharply up from May’s upwardly revised gain of 43,900 and far above market expectations of a 15,000 increase. This was the strongest monthly job growth since April, supported by a 29,300 rise in full-time employment to 10.17 million and a 47,000 gain in part-time employment to 4.65 million. Reflecting the strength of the labour market, the employment-to-population ratio rose to 64.0% from 63.7%, marking a second consecutive monthly increase, while the participation rate edged up to 67.0% from 66.7%. On an annual basis, total employment was 252,000 higher, an increase of 1.7%.
