Turkey Trade Deficit Widens in June

Turkey’s trade deficit widened to $10.4 billion in June 2026 from $8.2 billion a year earlier, in line with preliminary estimates. It was the largest monthly shortfall since March, as import growth continued to outpace exports. Total imports surged 23% year-on-year to a six-month high of $35.3 billion, driven by strong gains in intermediate goods (up 30%) and capital goods (up 19.6%), more than offsetting a 1.2% decline in consumer goods imports. The leading sources of imports were China (15%), Russia (10.4%), Germany (7.0%), the United States (5.3%), and Italy (3.9%).

Exports rose 21.7% to $24.9 billion, supported mainly by a 20.2% increase in manufacturing shipments. Exports from agriculture, forestry, and fishing climbed 48.4%, while mining and quarrying exports advanced 41.4%. The main export destinations were Germany (7.9%), the United States (6.2%), Italy (5.4%), the United Kingdom (5%), and Spain (4.5%). Over the first half of 2026, the trade deficit widened to $53.1 billion from $49.5 billion in the same period of the previous year.
