Speculative positioning in U.S. aluminium futures turned slightly more negative in the latest reporting period, according to data released on 31 July 2026. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) reported that aluminium speculative net positions declined to -0.7K, compared with -0.6K previously.
The shift indicates a modest increase in net short exposure among speculators, suggesting that traders have become incrementally more bearish on aluminium. While the move is small in absolute terms, the continued negative positioning underscores lingering caution around the metal’s near‑term outlook in U.S. markets.
