Retail sales in the Netherlands rose by 2.9% year-on-year in June 2026, slowing from an upwardly revised 3.4% increase in May and marking the weakest pace of growth in four months. In the non-food segment, sales growth eased to 3.1% from 4.0%, as smaller gains in drugstores (4.5% vs. 7.2%), clothing (1.4% vs. 3.6%), DIY, kitchen and flooring retailers (2.2% vs. 3.2%), and recreational goods (1.2% vs. 3.7%) offset a sharp acceleration in sales of consumer electronics and white goods (6.3% vs. 1.0%).
Meanwhile, sales fell in furniture and home furnishings stores (-0.5% vs. 1.5%) and in shoe and leather goods retailers (-4.6% vs. 2.7%). By contrast, turnover in food products increased by 2.5%, up from 2.1% in May, supported by stronger supermarket sales (2.7% vs. 2.1%), even as growth in specialty food stores slowed to 0.9% from 1.9%.
