Romania’s annual inflation rate slowed to 8.2% in July 2026, down from 10.4% in June. Although this remained above market expectations of 7.9%, it was the lowest rate recorded since July 2025.
The sharpest deceleration came from non-food goods, where inflation eased to 7.9% from 12.3% in June, largely driven by a pronounced moderation in electricity price growth (2.9% vs 35.2%). Food price inflation also cooled, slipping to 5.0% from 5.8%, as the pace of price increases moderated for vegetables, fruits, meat and meat products, milk and dairy products, and sugar. By contrast, service inflation was unchanged at a relatively high 13.7%.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.58% in July, picking up from a 0.06% increase in June. Meanwhile, the HICP-based annual inflation rate declined to 8.2% in July from 9.2% in the previous month.
