The RealClearMarkets/TIPP Economic Optimism Index rose to 45.6 in September 2026 from 45.1 in the previous month, falling short of expectations for 46.2 but still reaching its highest level since March. The increase was driven by stronger confidence among investors and higher-income households, which outweighed weaker sentiment among non-investors and lower-income households. The six-month outlook improved to 41.3 from 39.9, while the personal financial outlook index slipped to 52.7 from 53. Meanwhile, the index measuring confidence in the federal government’s economic policy edged up to 42.9 from 42.3.
