Italy Producer Inflation Hits Highest Level Since Early 2023

Italy’s producer prices increased by 7.8% year-on-year in July 2026, up from a 5.8% rise in June and reaching their highest level since February 2023. Domestic market prices accelerated to 9.3% (from 6.8%), largely driven by a sharp increase in electricity and gas supply prices, which jumped 14.5% after an 8.9% rise in the previous month.

Within manufacturing, the strongest annual price gains were recorded in coke and refined petroleum products (54.0%), chemicals (9.6%), and metallurgy and fabricated metal products, excluding machinery and equipment (7.7%). Excluding energy, domestic producer prices rose 3.3%, following a 2.9% increase in June.

Producer prices in foreign markets also picked up, rising 3.6% year-on-year compared with 3.1% in June. Prices increased in both the euro area (3.7% vs 3.4%) and non-euro area markets (3.5% vs 2.8%). On a monthly basis, overall producer prices climbed 2.4% in July, after remaining unchanged in June.
