Taiwan Trade Surplus at 10-Month High

Taiwan’s trade surplus widened to USD 22.3 billion in August 2026, up from USD 16.8 billion a year earlier, marking the largest surplus since October 2025. Exports surged 41% year-on-year to a record USD 82.4 billion, led by robust growth in information, communication and audio‑video products (up 41.8%), parts of electronic products (up 58%), and base metals and related articles (up 22.4%). The United States remained Taiwan’s largest export market, accounting for 28.7% of total shipments, with exports to the US increasing 20.7%.

Imports jumped 44.3% to USD 60.1 billion, driven by higher purchases of parts of electronic products (up 62.6%), information, communication and audio‑video products (up 108.6%), and mineral products (up 38.4%). Mainland China and Hong Kong remained the largest sources of imports, together representing 21.1% of the total, with inbound shipments from these markets soaring 60.2%.

Over the first eight months of the year, the trade surplus reached USD 136.9 billion, as exports grew 44.2% and imports increased 40.4%.
