Denmark Inflation Hits 9-Month High

Denmark’s annual inflation rate accelerated to 2% in August 2026, up from 1.7% in July, reaching its highest level since November 2025. The increase was primarily driven by a pickup in housing and utility costs, which rose by 1% after being flat in July. Additional upward pressure came from higher prices in information and communication (5.1% vs 4.6%), leisure, sports and culture (2.3% vs 0.8%), and personal care along with other miscellaneous goods and services (1.8% vs 1.5%).

In contrast, food prices continued to fall, though at a slightly slower rate than in the previous month (-1.5% vs -1.6%). Inflation in transport also eased (4.5% vs 5.5%), as did price growth in restaurants and hotels (7.6% vs 8.1%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices declined by 0.3% in August, the first decrease in seven months, following a 1.3% increase in July. Core inflation, which excludes energy and unprocessed food, edged down to 2.2% in August from 2.3% recorded in each of the prior two months.
