China’s fixed asset investment contracted more sharply in August 2026, highlighting persistent weakness in capital spending. According to the latest data updated on 15 September 2026, investment fell 7.2% year-on-year, a deeper decline than July’s 6.7% drop compared with the same month a year earlier.
The figures, measured on a year-over-year basis, indicate that not only is fixed asset investment shrinking, but the pace of contraction is accelerating.
