The figures indicate that, on a year-over-year basis, August’s employment change was identical to that of July, suggesting a continued soft patch in the labor market rather than a one-off setback. Both the current reading for August and the previous reading for July measure employment relative to the same months a year earlier, underscoring that the contraction has become a persistent feature rather than an isolated fluctuation.
