US equity markets ended mixed on Tuesday as a rebound in Treasury yields capped gains in chipmakers. The S&P 500 finished little changed, while the Nasdaq 100 climbed 0.8% to a record close of 30,732 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 185 points.
Another strong session for AI-related names supported the broader market. AI infrastructure stocks outperformed, helped by a robust reception to Meta’s new Muse AI agent. In parallel, Anthropic announced a new AI model aimed at handling a broad range of business tasks at lower cost, ahead of its highly anticipated Wall Street debut.
Large semiconductor names underpinned the Nasdaq’s advance. Nvidia gained 0.7%, Micron added 5%, and Sandisk surged 6.8% after an upgrade from Rosenblatt. The S&P 500 trimmed earlier losses after President Trump said US officials had a “very good” meeting with Iranian representatives. Manufacturer shares also firmed, with Applied Materials rising 1.8%.
By contrast, weakness in financials weighed on the Dow. Bank stocks came under pressure, with JPMorgan sliding 3.4% and Bank of America down 3% amid the sector-wide selloff.
