France’s manufacturing business climate index held at 101 in September 2026, unchanged from August’s revised level and July’s reading, but slightly below market expectations of 102. Personal production prospects improved to 15 from 12 in August, while general production prospects rose for the fifth consecutive month, to -9 from -10. Finished-goods inventories increased sharply to 13 from 6, edging just above their long-term average. At the same time, overall order books deteriorated further, slipping to -16 from -14, while foreign order books remained unchanged for the third straight month at -12. Expected workforce size weakened, falling to -1 from 2. By contrast, expectations for selling prices over the next three months climbed again, to 14 from 10, remaining well above their long-term average, with the rise especially marked in the manufacture of food products and beverages.
