Brazil received $7.4 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) in August 2026, slightly below the $7.7 billion recorded in the same month a year earlier. Equity inflows reached $9.3 billion, comprising $3.6 billion in fresh equity (non-reinvested earnings) and $5.7 billion in reinvested earnings. In contrast, intercompany lending posted net outflows of $1.9 billion.
Portfolio investment registered net outflows of $5.2 billion in August 2026. Equity and investment fund shares saw outflows of $6.5 billion, partially offset by $1.3 billion in net inflows to debt securities. Over the 12 months through August, FDI amounted to $86.6 billion, equivalent to 3.39% of GDP.
