India’s BSE Sensex rose about 0.3% to 72,740 on Wednesday, snapping a two-session losing streak. Sentiment improved on the back of softer oil prices and signs of a pickup in Middle East export activity, even as uncertainty persisted over the absence of a US–Iran peace agreement.
Brent crude was up 1.1% at around $103.7 a barrel, partially reversing a sharp decline in the previous session. US Treasury yields fell as traders pared back expectations of an October rate hike, after a Federal Reserve official signaled that policymakers still had time to assess incoming data.
On the equity front, Power Mech Projects advanced roughly 3.8% after reportedly winning a 5.49 billion-rupee order from Adani Group’s Moxie Power Generation. TCS (up 1.8%), HFCL (+5.0%), and Sterlite Tech (+5.0%) also posted gains.
Foreign investors sold 99.8 billion rupees ($1.04 billion) of Indian equities on Tuesday, marking their largest single-day outflow in about four months. This brought total foreign selling in September to $2.7 billion and year-to-date net outflows to $26.75 billion. The benchmark index remains down about 5.6% for the month.
