The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk freight index, which measures rates for vessels transporting dry bulk commodities, fell for a fourth consecutive session on Wednesday, slipping about 2.1% to 3,113 points, its lowest level since August 27.
The capesize index, covering vessels that typically carry 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, declined 3.4% to 4,928 points, the lowest since August 25. The panamax index, reflecting ships that usually transport 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, edged down 0.3% to 2,384 points.
Among smaller vessel segments, the supramax index was unchanged at 1,797 points, holding at its highest level since August 2022.
Overall, the benchmark index registered a monthly loss of 1.4%, but still posted a quarterly gain of 24.5%.
