Slovenia posted a trade deficit of EUR 1,380.5 million in August 2026, reversing from a surplus of EUR 107.8 million in the same month a year earlier. Imports surged by 36.0% year-on-year to EUR 6,466.6 million, supported by higher purchases from both EU countries (+10.8%) and non-EU partners (+57.1%). Exports also grew, though at a much slower pace, rising 4.9% to EUR 5,086.1 million, largely on the back of stronger sales to EU markets (+16.8%), while shipments to non-EU countries declined (-3.6%).
Over the January–August period, Slovenia recorded a trade deficit of EUR 7,129.1 million, compared with a surplus of EUR 1,970.4 million in the same period a year earlier. The deterioration was driven by a 5.1% drop in exports alongside a 13.8% increase in imports.
