Hungary’s Core Inflation Eases to 1.9% YoY in September, Extending Disinflation Trend

Hungary’s core Consumer Price Index (CPI) growth slowed slightly in September 2026, with the year-over-year rate easing to 1.9%, down from 2.0% in August 2026. The figures, updated on 7 October 2026, confirm a continued moderation in underlying inflationary pressures in the Hungarian economy.

Measured on a year-over-year basis, the September reading shows that price growth for core goods and services — excluding volatile components — is still subdued and drifting lower. In August, core CPI had been 2.0% compared with the same month a year earlier; by September, that annual comparison had inched down to 1.9%.

The marginal decline underscores a sustained disinflation path in Hungary’s core prices over the late summer period of 2026, which may support a more dovish stance from policymakers if the trend persists, while also signaling some relief on underlying cost pressures for households and businesses.
