Lithuania Inflation Rate Accelerates Further in September

Lithuania’s annual inflation rate increased to 6.7% year-on-year in September 2026, up from 6.1% in August, reaching its highest level since July 2023. The acceleration was largely driven by stronger price growth in transport (20.2% vs 15.0% in August) and in housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (15.9% vs 15.8%). Additional upward pressure came from higher costs for alcoholic beverages, tobacco and narcotics (7.3% vs 7.1%), health (5.7% vs 4.9%), and insurance and financial services (7.3% vs 5.9%).

At the same time, price growth slowed in several categories: furnishings, household equipment and routine maintenance (1.7% vs 2.8%), recreation, sport and culture (5.1% vs 6.2%), education (3.8% vs 5.2%), and information and communication (1.8% vs 2.1%). Deflation in food and non-alcoholic beverages moderated slightly (-1.6% vs -2.0%), while prices for clothing and footwear declined by 0.7% after having risen 0.8% in August. On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 1.0% in September, rebounding from a 0.1% decrease in the previous month.
