Egypt Inflation Rate at 7-Month Low of 13.9%

Egypt’s annual urban inflation eased for the second consecutive month to 13.9% in September 2026, down from 14.5% in August, reaching its lowest level since February. The moderation was largely driven by the diminishing impact of earlier fuel price hikes. Transport inflation edged down to 24.3% in September from 24.4% in August, while inflation in housing and utilities slowed more markedly, falling to 35.2% from 42.8%.

In early March, Egypt raised fuel prices by roughly 14% to 17% across a broad range of petroleum products, its first fuel price increase of the year, in response to elevated global oil prices. Since then, price pressures have eased in several categories: inflation declined for clothing and footwear (13.9% vs 14.0% in August), health (4.5% vs 4.6%), and alcoholic beverages and narcotics (8.3% vs 9.1%).

By contrast, inflation picked up in some other components, including food and beverages (7.2% vs 6.3% in August) and furnishings (17.7% vs 16.9%). On a monthly basis, the consumer price index (CPI) rose by 1.3% in September, following a modest 0.1% increase in August, marking the sharpest monthly gain in four months.
