US manufacturing output increased by 0.3% month-over-month in September 2026, following a downwardly revised 0.2% decline in August and aligning with market expectations. Within the sector, durable goods output inched up 0.1%, driven by gains of at least 1% in primary metals, machinery, and electrical equipment, appliances, and components. These advances were partly offset by a 3.0% drop in motor vehicles and parts. Nondurable goods output rose 0.4%, led by stronger activity in printing and related support services and in chemicals. For the third quarter as a whole, manufacturing output expanded by 0.7%, underpinned by a 3.8% increase in durable goods production, supported in part by a 28.4% surge in semiconductors and related electronic components. By contrast, nondurable goods production fell 1.6% over the same period.
