Vietnam’s trade surplus surged to USD 7.31 billion in October 2026, up sharply from USD 2.38 billion in the same month a year earlier. This marked the second consecutive month of surplus and the largest monthly surplus on record, supported by strong gains in both exports and imports.
Exports climbed 51.4% year-on-year to a record USD 64.67 billion, while imports rose 43.1% to USD 57.36 billion. Over the first ten months of 2026, the trade balance posted a deficit of USD 12.07 billion, with exports up 27.5% to USD 499.24 billion and imports advancing 37.4% to USD 511.31 billion.
Import growth accelerated as factories continued to bring in more machinery and raw materials to expand production and support double-digit GDP growth for the year. During the period, total trade turnover (exports plus imports) reached USD 1.010 trillion, an increase of 32.3% from a year earlier. This was the first time Vietnam’s trade value exceeded the USD 1 trillion threshold, setting a new all-time high.
The United States remained Vietnam’s largest export market, while China continued to be its biggest source of imports.
