Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe

The Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe has set a new all-time record for the most expensive car in the world. It was made in 1955 by German automaker Mercedes. Given the rarity of the car and its historic provenance, the car was sold at Sotheby's for a record $143 million in the spring of 2022. Its price was also elevated due to the fact that the car was just one of two ever produced. The second car remains accessible for public display at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Germany.

Ferrari 250 GTO

The Ferrari 250 is a series of sports cars built by Ferrari from 1952 to 1964. Overall, the automaker made only 36 250 GTOs. Each of these vintage cars is estimated at millions of dollars today. This Ferrari 335 S Spider Scaglietti was first driven by Maurice Trintignant, Wolfgang von Trips, and Stirling Moss. The stunning vehicle was bought by Leonel Messi.

Mercedes-Benz W196

The 1954 Mercedes-Benz W196 fetched nearly $30 million at auction in 2013, breaking the all-time auction record. The price was so high due to the fact that it was one of the most important historic Grand Prix racing cars ever offered for sale. Juan Manuel Fangio, an Argentine pilot and 5-time Formula 1 champion scored many victories behind the wheel of this car. Overall, the legendary racer won 9 of the 12 races, including the 1954 Swiss and German Grand Prix.

Ferrari 290 ММ

The Ferrari 290 ММ is another racing car that went down in history thanks to famous Argentine racer Juan Manuel Fangio. This car was made by Ferrari engineers specifically for him to compete in the 1956 edition of Mille Miglia. The pilot finished fourth in that race. After almost 60 years, the car was sold for more than $28 million at Sotheby's.
