The state, located in East Africa, was one of the first independent territories in the tropical zone. The ancient name of Ethiopia is Abyssinia, which has long fallen out of use. Amharic is considered the official language of the country. For most travelers, Ethiopia begins with the capital, Addis Ababa, which was founded in 1886. The city is located at an altitude of 2,400 meters above sea level and is the third-highest capital in the world.
