US President Donald Trump continues to unveil one bold initiative after another. Now, he is pressuring the European Union to purchase American energy resources. Trump is confident that EU countries will agree to commit to buying energy from the United States.
According to the president, this measure is necessary to help eliminate the trade deficit with the eurozone, which currently stands at a record $350 billion.
“They're gonna have to buy our energy from us,” Trump emphasized. He previously accused EU countries of treating Washington poorly and of failing to purchase enough American goods.
It is worth recalling that on April 2, 2025, President Trump sharply increased import tariffs on goods from 185 countries, citing growing trade imbalances. However, the president noted that countries could avoid the higher tariffs by relocating production to the United States or lifting restrictions on American products.
Interestingly, the new wave of sweeping tariffs did not affect Russia, Belarus, Cuba, North Korea, Iran, Canada, or Mexico.
