Tesla

Tesla, the largest US manufacturer of electric vehicles and solutions for storing and using electricity, is at the top of the list. The company was founded in 2003 by Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning, while Elon Musk, Jeffrey Brian Straubel, and Ian Wright are considered as its co-founders. In the first half of 2019, the sales volume of new energy vehicles achieved an impressive 160 thousand.

BYD Co Ltd

The second line of the rating among new energy car makers is occupied by China's company BYD Co Ltd. Its subsidiary is BYD Auto. The automaker's tagline is "Build Your Dreams". Its goal is to manufacture world-class cars of the highest quality. Currently, BYD has four industrial bases located in Shenzhen, Xi'an, Shanghai, and Beijing. In the first half of 2019, the sales volume of innovative cars totaled 141,500 units.

BAIC BJEV

BAIC BJEV, one of the largest automobile companies, is engaged exclusively in manufacturing electric cars. BAIC BJEV has researched and designed the most advanced electric drive system called e-Motion Drive. Moreover, the company is developing a number of innovative products, including EDS, PDU, electric motor, and high-speed reducer. They will be applied in the new lineup of the automaker's models. In the first half of 2019, sales of cars running on innovative energy sources amounted to 68,900 units.

SAIC

The fourth position among automakers producing new energy vehicles goes to SAIC Motor Corporation Limited, a Chinese state-owned automotive company. In 2007, the corporation introduced a hybrid version of the Roewe 750 in Shanghai. In January 2008, SAIC Motor signed an agreement with Johnson Controls-Saft to supply lithium-ion batteries for producing hybrid vehicles. In the first half of the current year, the sales volume of such cars was 65,450 units.

BMW

This German manufacturer deals with the production of cars and the development of engines. Major BMW production facilities are concentrated in Germany. In addition, cars can be assembled at factories in Thailand, Malaysia, India, Egypt, South Africa, Vietnam, and the United States. In Russia, there is also an assembly line of BMW (Kaliningrad, Avtotor). In China, the automaker cooperates with Huacheng Auto Holding, a manufacturer of passenger cars under the Brilliance brand name. The number of new energy vehicles traded during the first half of 2019 reached 56,500 units.

Nissan

Japanese concern Nissan is ranked sixth among automakers producing cars that run on new energy sources. This is one of the largest and oldest car manufacturers in the world created in 1933. The Altima Hybrid was the concern's first hybrid model, placed only in the US market. The company developed an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery, 35% less and 30% cheaper compared to its analogues, and began adopting them in electric cars a decade ago. In the first half of 2019, sales of cars using new energy sources totaled 47,500 units.

Geely

This is one of the leading Chinese automotive companies, a subsidiary of the Geely Holding Group. The company owns nine factories located in a number of cities in China. Geely is working on the development of a new generation of electric vehicles and taxis. Geely cars are very popular among taxi fleets in most countries of the world. In addition to searching for an alternative to gasoline engines, Geely is also engaged in manufacturing hybrid cars and hybrid power plants. The volume of innovative cars sold in the first half of 2019 amounted to 47,200 units.

Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft

This leading German automotive concern consists of 342 companies specializing in automobile service provision and car production. The concern controls 48 automotive enterprises in 15 European countries and 6 countries of Asia and Africa as well as the United States. Volkswagen AG manufactures more than 26,600 units a day. Sales and maintenance of vehicles are carried out in more than 150 countries. In the first half of 2019, sales of new energy cars totaled 39,600 units.

Hyundai Motor Company

Hyundai, a South Korean company, is the ninth-largest automaker producing cars running on new energy sources. In 2004, Hyundai's first hybrid car was Click Hybrid (also known as Getz). In 2005, the company developed another hybrid model - Accent. Over 780 Click cars were supplied to various government departments. In addition, Hyundai experts created a special hybrid scheme in cooperation with Enova Systems. In the first half of 2019, sales of cars powered by new energy sources amounted to 34,500 units.

JAC

China's state-owned company JAC is the last on the list of top 10 most advanced automakers producing innovative vehicles. In addition to cars, it also manufactures buses. JAC is considered a modern high-tech enterprise, one of the five largest Chinese car factories. Its production capacity is sufficient to produce more than 500 thousand cars a year. The joint venture between Germany's Volkswagen and JAC plans to build a new electric car factory. The number of new energy cars sold during the first half of 2019 achieved 32,000.
