EUR/USD

During the European trading session, the Euro (EUR) edged down 0.1% against the Dollar (USD), trading near the 1.1610 level. Although the Euro had retreated earlier in the day, it staged a slight recovery, resulting in a net decline. Reflecting this currency movement, the Dollar Index (DXY)—which measures the dollar's strength against a basket of six major global currencies—rose by 0.1%, trading near the 99.00 mark at the time of writing. Financial market analysts expect the dollar to remain range-bound in the near term. This anticipated consolidation stems from two conflicting macroeconomic factors: on one hand, a robust US non-farm payrolls report for August bolstered expectations of a Federal Reserve interest rate hike, providing strong support for the dollar; on the other, recent reassuring comments from Federal Reserve officials regarding slowing inflation have tempered the dollar's upward momentum. Consequently, market participants are closely awaiting the US Consumer Price Index (CPI) report for August, scheduled for release on Friday, viewing it as a potential key catalyst for a sharp rise in the dollar.

Meanwhile, the Euro is expected to remain range-bound as investors adopt a "wait-and-see" approach ahead of the European Central Bank's upcoming monetary policy decision on Thursday. Analysis by ABN AMRO suggests that the European Central Bank's policy outlook is relatively clear and that financial markets have fully priced in an interest rate hike at the upcoming Governing Council meeting, thereby limiting the likelihood of unexpected volatility in the euro. From a technical analysis perspective on the daily chart, the EUR/USD exchange rate is hovering around 1.1612, maintaining a generally neutral short-term trend. The current price is closely tracking the 20-period exponential moving average (EMA) at 1.1601. This close alignment between the current market price and the short-term moving average indicates that the pair is undergoing a healthy consolidation phase following recent gains, rather than the start of a broader trend reversal; this assessment is supported by a Relative Strength Index (RSI) reading of 54, signaling neutral momentum. Immediate support lies at the 20-period EMA, around 1.1600; a break below this level would open the door for a potential decline to 1.1500. Meanwhile, the pair's August high of 1.1710 represents a key resistance level for buyers.
